The Royal Court Manufacturing company, in Hereke, was one of the first producers of silk carpets and they were located in Hereke, Turkey. So as the company monopolized the industry for high quality silk handmade carpets, the term Hereke began to be used as the title of any highquality hand made carpet; silk or wool, made in Turkey.
